OK...this is kind of a weird question so if it is inappropriate please just let me know...but, where does Dee go to live? I am guessing she stays at the Ryans while Frank moves! I know she marries Roger at some point but am not sure when...thanks for the info! Dusty

SPOILER ALERT!!!She'll stay with Maeve and Johnny while refusing to give Frank a divorce - and at the same time - she is scheming to become Mrs. Pat Ryan. After she marries Pat, they have their own apartment - although - near the end of their marriage they are living with Maeve and Johnny. After Pat throws her out is when she moves in with Roger. BTW - It's not inappropriate - and you did say "the rest of the story" - just next time it may help to be a little more clear when asking a question about the future and put the word SPOILER - or SPOILER request - as part of the thread title. There are some posters who don't want to accidentally read some future info and those posters avoid the SPOILER threads and don't open them.

Why did Dee leave the show (maybe twice)? and come back? Was it because she gained weight?

Ilene Kristen
S P O I L E R
left first time, in 1979, because she was burned out and wanted to do other projects. She specifically wanted to do more comedy and hoped to become the next Lucille Ball.
She returned in spring 1982.
She has said she was fired in the fall 1983, because of weight gain. She said she had gained weight because of medication she was taking at the time.
According to this magazine snippet, the show initially appeared to be understanding about her health issues.  DAYTIME TV – October 1983 (this issue had summer 1983 news)
Ryan's Hope star ILENE KRISTEN (Delia) was in Durham, North Carolina doing something very special for herself. Ever since she came back on Ryan's Hope, she hasn't been pleased with the way she looked or felt. She flew down to Durham and checked herself into Duke University for a total physical. Ilene was put on a strict diet under total supervision.
The show was so proud of Ilene's fortitude, they gave her a full 6-week medical leave so she could do this for herself.

I don't think Dee ever lived by herself. Isn't that sad?
I didn't watch all 13 years, so I could be wrong about this.[/b]

Didn't he suggest to Dee that she move back to their own apartment? Then they still have that apartment (and have been paying rent for the past 13 months!) Why doesn't Frank move back there himself? Because Jill is not likely to "happen by" Frank and Delia's apartment, whereas if he hangs out full time at his office, there's always that possibility.

Ok...so they can afford to pay rent on a place they don't even live in yet frank can gripe about Dee's buying an outfit or spending foolishly? I am not necessarily a Dee fan...or franks for that point...but, the double standard lives on with the Ryans! (ENGRAVERS MT)[/quote]

I am not necessarily a Dee fan...or franks for that point...but, the double standard lives on with the Ryans! (ENGRAVERS MT) To me, the odious double standard involves not Frank and Delia, but Frank and Jill. For months, Jill has stood back and watched with quiet anguish as St. Francis tried to "work it out" with Delia. Jill wasn't hurt thinking of Frank in bed with Delia? She didn't suffer all those times when St. F took her hands, gazed into her eyes, told her he loved and needed her, and then...went back to try to "work it out" one more time with Delia?
Then Frank finds out Jill spent time at the beachhouse with Seneca, and holy moley, is he upset! The idea that Jill might so much as look at another man, much less hop into the sack with him, is well nigh unbearable.
Jill's stepping aside while Frank tries and tries and tries with Delia? Perfectly reasonable. Jill looking for a little emotional comfort elsewhere. Treason!

Maybe Frank's not upset so much at Jill being with another guy, but with Jill being with that controlling stuffed shirt Seneca ...

Jill looking for a little emotional comfort elsewhere. Treason! It's apparent that the Ryans see women at this time as the old, horrible stereotype - Madonnas (Dee, holding Saint Little John on her hip with one hand, a voter registration form in her other; Jill, bravely resisting her one true love, celibate, with an aching heart) or whores (both women finding comfort in the arms of someone other than Saint Frank).

Maeve and Johnny do, Frank and Pat do, Mary does, Kathleen may or may not (we don't have much evidence). But I would say that Siobhan, the rebel, breaks out of this mold. Hurray for Siobhan, the rebel!
