Jillian asks Seneca for fifty dollars. Okay, she wants to buy drugs but Seneca doesn't know that. All he knows is that his suffering wife wants some money to buy books. He peers into his wallet and tells her that fifty dollars would clean him out and gives her twenty-five. So what if it cleans him out? He's going to be in the hospital all day. What does he need to buy anyway, lunch? Seneca, go cash a check at the business office. Go to the ATM. Borrow some money from Roger. Just give your wife the money!

Another method that he uses for control. He also could leave the hospital and go to a bank.

She really is at Seneca's mercy at this point. He should have given her the money.

Jill should have already known how cheap he is. Remember all the "gifts" he used to give? Rocks and such? This is a well-established pattern.
