These types of relationships in the 1970's & 1980's -- like Pat and Nancy's -- were not well received by audiences.
These two from the 1980's were discussed during other rebroadcasts.
There was diner owner and devout Catholic Rose Kelly (Loanne Bishop) and attorney Jewish Jake Meyer (Sam Behrens/known as Stanley Birnbaum when he was Dr. Adam Cohen on Ryan's Hope).
They fell in love after Jake helped Rose become guardian of young troubled teen Louisa (Lou). Rose and Jake had to deal with the interference of the busybody women from Rose's church group and Jake had the disapproval of his Uncle Isaac (played by character actor Cliff Norton). They became engaged -- but Rose broke it off because of the children religion issue. They spent the next several months on the verge of getting back together and then finally did-- only to have Rose quickly end it again (still the children issue) -- and she left town.
Rose and Jake were on the cover of Soap Opera Digest in March 1984--
(here is the link -- the photo won't remain up)

and Loanne was nominated for a best supporting actress emmy that May (of 1984) -- but by August 1984 Loanne left the show -- because the story had nowhere to go.
Jake later went on to marry Bobbie - -and that he was Jewish was less a factor-- although I recall a scene one holiday season when Jake arrived home and Bobbie surprised him with a Menorah and recited Jewish prayers she had learned.

There was Christian Dr. Mike Horton (Michael T. Weiss-- he later went on to be the lead in the NBC TV series The Pretender) and the strict Orthodox Jewish Dr. Robin Jacobs (Derya Ruggles).
They were on the cover of Soap Opera Digest in May 1986
They started out hating each other but attracted at the same time -- Robin said they could not be -- so she went on to marry a Jewish man and he became involved with another woman -- both the other relationships failed. Mike decided to convert to Judaism and he and Robin planned to marry.
While DOOL made sure this story got plenty of publicity and press -- it didn't change the audiences feelings and the story was abruptly ended when Robin had been shot and after she recovered-- Robin saw and overheard Mike in the hospital chapel saying a prayer of thanks for her recovery-- and that was when she realized his Christianity would always be in his heart -- and Robin ended the engagement.
Robin was sent out of town and she was so Jewish that when she left -- she moved to Israel!
Later, Robin returned to Salem with Mike's secret son. By this time Mike was in love with another woman -- and he and Robin disagreed over the religion the boy should be brought up in. Robin and the boy quickly returned to Israel. Some time later, Mike also moved there to be close to his son (and then later returned to Salem when the Mike was recast)

Have any others to add-- how they played out. Perhaps someone can give a recap about RH's Katie Thompson and Dave Greenberg. Since Katie and Dave did marry -- how much of the story was about Katie being Catholic and Dave Jewish -- and how was it handled on the show 5 or 6 years after Pat and Nancy.

I like the Pat & Nancy story. Wish they would have gotten married. I don't remember Katie Thompson and Dave Greenberg but then I missed most of RH in the 80s.

Didn't Nancy go to Arizona or New Mexico, and Pat followed her there? Was there an explanation of their breakup when Pat was written back into the NYC story?

Yes (San Antonio,Texas)
I don't know if Pat ever talks about it once he returns in 1982 ( maybe Nancy's name came up during the Katie/Dave storyline?). Siobhan goes to live with Pat in San Antonio in the summer of 1980 -- when she returns home in January 1981 - - she tells Maeve that Pat and Nancy had split up and that their parting had nothing to do with religious differences.

Nana Tucker wasn't surprised that she was written out of Ryan's Hope. She said that while she had some nice scenes - - she didn't care for the overall story-- and like Loanne Bishop felt about Rose and Jake on GH -- Nana felt the Pat and Nancy story had nowhere to go.

Someone on another forum said they didn't recall any religious conflict for Katie (Maeve and Johnny's granddaughter) and Dave.

In 2013 would there be so much opposition to a "mixed marriage," whether it be different religions or different races? I am asking seriously, because I live in Diane's Nirvana, where everyone holds hands and sings "Kumbayah." Dave Feldman was the one whose interference bothered me the most, but it seems everyone has made a point of trying to plant seeds of doubt so Pat and Nancy would decide to call it quits.

I suppose they'd have to come up with some fresh new twist for those types of storylines to be better accepted today than they were in the 1970's and 1980's.
GH's Rose and Dool's Robin were outwardly more devoted to their religions (I say outwardly because others - - while their faith is very dear to them -- it is a personal and private matter - -and that may be how if is for Nancy) I mean, I don't know if Nancy would have already joined a Synagogue when she moved to Washington -- but I'm sure that Rose and Robin would have found a new House of Worship as soon as they moved.
I would have liked to have seen Pat and Nancy discuss what they believe -- I liked when Pat talked to Father McShane (after his addiction problems - - and asking for advice how to get out of his marriage to Delia). He talked about how he felt separated from God and the Church-- how he missed receiving the sacraments. To hear a 28 year old man talks like that is not something you hear on TV a lot. I'd like for Pat and Nancy to exchange stories like that-- what their religion means to them -- not what it means to their parents. However talks like that would make their differences more real -- and they kind of avoid dwelling on that.

Lapsed Catholics vs Lapsed Jews
I live it, yet do not discuss it.
So interesting when Passover and the High Holy Days of Christianity intertwine...
I will defer to that little film, The Ten Commandments
(MOH SESSSSSSSS!)

No, but I'm glad to hear she is still a working actress.

Last week, I had come across a few more quotes on Rose and Jake - - been searching but I can't find the magazine at the moment. It was quotes (from about 5 years after the story aired) from one of the co-producers during the story. He said even though people liked both characters - - the storyline received such a negative response. It also sounded like Loanne was sort of pushed out with her decision to leave. Then he said when Jake went on to get involved with Bobbie - - he became a lot less Jewish.

i don't know what religious faith, MG is, (Pat
I don't know what religious faith MG is, (Pat # 1.) But his older brother Lyle Groome, is Roman Catholic, his wife is Jewish, (nee), MS. Lubinski. They both share a grown daughter, that attended and graduated a Denver, Private, Catholic High School. They appear quite happy together.
