This song was in one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE TV shows, "Life on Mars" the US version. There isn't a bad song in that show. Of course this song has always been a fave.

What can I say?
And now a very different version from 1929 with incredible scenes of life in Jamaica.

I never saw this TV show, but this is a great song. After listening to this I had to look up the playlist for Woodstock to see if this was one of the songs that Sly performed there. (It was not.) Thanks for taking me back to that era, Fia.

Diane, you can buy Life on Mars at amazon. I highly, highly recommend it. It's a mystery, and very funny at times. It's about a cop that gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. All the songs are from that era. And you will never figure out what's going on until all is revealed in the last episode. If you like Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli you'll love this.
Here's a little taste, but it really doesn't do the show justice.

I think this is a great sing-along scene, for me the most memorable of the entire movie.

I agree! It's wonderful. One of the few times a cast of actors bursts out in song in the middle of a movie in a way that seems like it could really happen.

Great song from James Taylor. Saw him in concert twice (twenty-five years apart) and he was fantastic in both performances. A bit less hair in the more recent show, but what a superb entertainer.

I never heard this song before. Saw the text at the top of the post and was expecting MacArthur Park. (High school kids who worked summers in the union building dining hall at Penn State would play MacArthur Park on the juke box because it was the longest song for the nickle.)

Feel free to add Van Morrison tunes any ol' time. I cannot choose my fave of his, love 'em all. Sad to see him looking his age in this clip. My mental image of him is as he looked in the late 60s. (Probably think of myself that way as well.)

I guess Van did his very own version. Why did I think he sang this one?
