Heirlooms- Amy Grant
After dinner tonight we put up the Christmas trees and as it has been for the past 25 years (ever since my then 12 year old daughter bought her first AG Christmas album in 1988) this has been the first song we play while decorating the trees.
Up in the attic, down on my knees Lifetimes of boxes, timeless to me Letters and photographs, yellowed with years Some bringing laughter, some bringing tears
Time never changes the memories, the faces Of loved ones who bring to me All that I come from and all that I live for And all that I'm going to be My precious family is more than an heirloom to me
Wisemen and shepherds down on their knees Bringing their treasures to lay at His feet Who was this wonder, baby yet King? Living and dying, He gave life to me
Time never changes the memory, the moment His love first pierced through me Telling all that I come from and all that I live for And all that I'm going to be My precious Savior is more than an heirloom to me
My precious Jesus Is more than an heirloom to me

Old Toy Trains (aka as Little Toy Trains) - Glen Campbell
This song always makes me think of when my son was little and he loved the Christmas train we'd put around one of the trees. We still do it-- however - - our other granddaughter just started walking two weeks ago-- so this year the train has to go, once again, up on a table, out of her reach.
Now the song - - put with Thomas, the Tank Engine, in a video - - has become a new favorite of our older granddaughter.
Little toy trains Little toy tracks Little toy drums Coming from a sack Carried by a man dressed in white and red Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed?
Close your eyes Listen to the skies All is calm, all is well Soon you'll hear Kris Kringle and the jingle bells
Bringing little toy trains And little toy tracks Little toy drums Coming from a sack Carried by a man dressed in white and red Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed?
So close your eyes And listen to the skies All is calm, all is well Soon you'll hear Kris Kringle and the jingle bells
Bringing little toy trains And little toy tracks Little toy drums Coming from a sack Carried by a man dressed in white and red Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed? Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed?

God Bless the Children - B. J. Thomas
This song came out in the late 1970's -- when my kids were preschool age
I hope there's really a Santa Claus I hope he lives on the cold north pole I hope the stockings are hung on the wall May the child stay in us all
God bless the children everywhere For they haven't yet learned not to care We must not let time age the soul May the child stay in us all
I hope there's really a reindeer that flies Does a snowman see through his button eyes I hope that when our hair turns to grey All the child in us will stay
God bless the children everywhere For they haven't yet learned not to care Time must not turn our own hearts cold May the child stay in us all May the child stay in us all
Unless we be like children The gates of heaven close Until we think like children Our souls will never grow old
God bless the children everywhere For they haven't yet learned not to care Time must not turn our own hearts cold May the child stay in us all May the child stay in us all May the child stay in us all

Spike Jones and His City Slickers, I Want Eddie Fisher for Christmas
Love this song – my guess is it was released in 1954 or 55. I would have been two in 1954, and had a little record player. This was a single on a "45," but either my dad or my uncle taught me the trick of playing it at 78, so my memory of it is a couple of octaves higher, much like Alvin and the Chipmunks.

LOVE the visual with the 45 on the record player.
My parents used to listen to a lot of Spike Jones.
There is a line in the movie IQ about SJ - I was not familiar with him, and my mother explained the "phenomenon"

Silver Bells made its debut in 1951 - The Lemon Drop Kid - Marilyn Maxwell and Bob Hope
We were listening to Silver Bells by The Supremes today (although it appears it was Diana with other background singers on this version)

River - Joni Mitchell
It's coming on Christmas They're cutting down trees They're putting up reindeer And singing songs of joy and peace Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on
But it don't snow here It stays pretty green I'm going to make a lot of money Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long I would teach my feet to fly I wish I had a river I could skate away on I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me You know, he put me at ease And he loved me so naughty Made me weak in the knees Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle I'm selfish and I'm sad Now I've gone and lost the best baby That I ever had I wish I had a river I could skate away on
Oh, I wish I had a river so long I would teach my feet to fly I wish I had a river I could skate away on I made my baby say goodbye
It's coming on Christmas They're cutting down trees They're putting up reindeer And singing songs of joy and peace I wish I had a river I could skate away on
