Hey gang. It's been a while. I'm still obsessed with Ryan's Hope and I still wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it.
I just stumbled upon the Love is a Many Splendored thing soap from 67-73. Ron Hale was in it, and in the episode that I posted, so is John Karlen of Dark Shadows. But the coolest part is that they're using RH music cues. The vid should start at a familiar one if I did this right.
The thing is iMDB doesn't list Carey Gold as a show composer, and the composers that are listed don't have RH in their credits. I thought previously that Carey was an alias for Dark Shadows' Robert Cobert since RH used some DS cues (Deliah/Josette's music box, remember?). I think CG may have been a catch-all name for various composers now, though.
EDIT Even weirder, this was a CBS show. What is ABC's RH music doing on a CBS show? Or rather, what is CBS music doing on an ABC show?
EDIT 2 From wikipedia: Also a legacy of the show was the music style of Eddie Layton, being more jazz and pop flavored, as opposed to the heavy symphonic/theatre organ style of more established soap operas. Eddie's style was transitional between the earlier soap opera styles, and the more contemporary light orchestral/synthesizer pop flavored music of soap operas that were later used.
So maybe Layton is CG? Or at least the jazzy RH cues are Layton's contribution to a collective "Carey Gold".
EDIT 3 Also, it looks like Michael Hawkins was on it. So we know there was some real talent on this show.
Either way, I'm diggin this show. Enjoy.
