I meant to replay the first show yesterday to get Jill's exact words when she was talking with Roger.
She said something like "I've loved Frank Ryan for 4 years and I've never done anything to make him end his marriage to Dee."
What the heck?!! Isn't there a phrase called alienation of affection? Had Jill not been proffering all her intelligence, beauty and understanding nature (far exceeding what was called for, imo), would Frank have been quite as fed up with Deliah? Yeah, their marriage was far from perfect. But it was once Frank found his 'soul mate' that he started comparing what he got in the marriage lottery to what he could have and wanted. Obviously, he would have compared the two women constantly and Dee would look increasingly bad.
I do believe engaging in an affair with a married man does do 'something' to influence the break-up of his marriage. DUH!!

100 Percent correct, why people think Jill is some kind of saint is beyond me.

100 Percent correct, why people think Jill is some kind of saint is beyond me. Who thinks that except Frank?Well, I don't think she is a saint, because I don't believe in the concept of saints (as Clarence Darrow put it: I don't believe in God for the same reason I don't believe in Mother Goose), but I definitely think she is a fine person and a much better match for Frank than is Dee. Eventually (read: soon) everyone on the show will come to know and accept that as true as well...

Frank would be lonely and unhappy even if Jill had never come into his life. Granted, his relationship with Jill has a promise of a happy life, but she is not the cause of his troubles. The marriage probably held together as long as it did because Frank was never home, what with school and work.

One imagines that if Jill had not come along, they would have just drifted apart and probably separated/divorced somewhere in their late 30s or 40s. At which time, LJ would have been in his teens, so people would not have been as up in arms about their separation.
By the way, serious question, how old is LJ now?

More likely Frank would have met another woman. The character is written as attractive to and attracted to women.

By the way, serious question, how old is LJ now? I don't think anyone has said definitively, but my guess would be close to 18 months old. He's walking. But he's not doing a lot of talking (maybe because he's too busy crying).

Jill always comes off as hypocritical to me. I do like her and I love Nancy Addison, but she is always after something she can't have. As most of you know, Jill likes having more than one guy on the hook at a time and I feel that she is doing that with Frank/Seneca now. Of course, sleeping with a married man would cause trouble in his marriage! On the other hand, I do agree that Dee and Frank were not a pair that was meant to last. Judging by Frank's personality, I cannot believe he ever wanted to marry her in the first place. Was it just a sexual attraction or the need to rescue a damsel in distress? I cannot picture them ever having a healthy/happy marriage. I am not sure whether Frank is actually capable of that. I KNOW Delia isn't lol. When I started watching last time, Delia had the whole "blindness" storyline going on. So, I don't know the ins-and-outs of this part of the story. I know generalizations, based on stuff that airs later so it is interesting to see how the dots get connected. I love this show!

Hi, Tyrion, and welcome! Did you see the flashback in the very beginning where Frank tells Mary that he proposed to Dee, because she cheers him up when he is feeling down? Who knew? she was young, cute and lively and he said he's not always happy. She makes him feel better about himself. So that's the reason why he proposed. Then, I guess, he "outgrew" her. It happens, but it's not always amicable. I think they would have tolerated each other a little longer, until, as Fairplay said, he found someone else. Even without Jill in the picture, there would always be someone else.

Besides Frank, who else thinks Jill is a saint, Maeve, Mary and Faith, Johnny will soon join the group.

But we can figure this out.. Yesterday, at Lawyer Burney's office, the subject of 'offspring of the marriage' came up. Dee said LJ was almost two. So, your figuring of 24 months jives with that, maybe short by less than a month. We never see anyone celebrate the child's birthday!

Perhaps you missed today's episode. Maeve made it very clear that she did not accept the affair. What she had accepted a and approved of was that Jill gave up Frank and ended the affair.
Nobody has made Jill a saint or said that an affair with a married man is a good thing, except Frank.

Don't forget that Frank is also the patron saint of cheaters.............that is why I always thought he and Jill deserved each other. They are the shining example of the fact that loving someone is not always enough. Jill is also a committment-phobe. She is paranoid settling down. It makes me think that she is always looking for the next best thing. Ken George Jones anyone? LOL For some reason, I always forgive these characters on this show. It just shows how talented these writers are that they can make me dislike Frank, Dee, Roger, Jill etc. and then turn around and forgive them anything. The only one I don't feel that way about is Jack LOL.
