Harris Laskawy's Obituary
LASKAWY, Harris Gerson Feb. 12, 1943 - July 4, 2010 Harris Laskawy, Age 67, died at his home in Valley Village, CA on Independence Day, July 4th, 2010. Born in Bronx, NY, he attended Stuyvesant HS, studied architecture at Pratt Institute, and graduated from NYU. He was married May 15th, 1976 to Jennifer Reed in Westport, CT whom he shared his life with for 34 years. As a theatre actor in New York, Harris "Hank" Laskawy was a co-founder and associate artistic director of the eclectic CSC Repertory Theatre in New York where, for seven seasons he appeared as a lead actor in over 40 classical and contemporary productions. He was excited and stimulated by his craft and enjoyed performing the playwrights of the world tackling such roles as Vanya, Claudius, Mendoza, the Devil, Marquis de Sade, Brutus, Titus, Ahab in "Moby Dick", Solness in "The Masterbuilder". His enormous presence was often noted by critics. He received an Obie Award in New York for Distinguished Performance as Uncle Vanya in "Uncle Vanya", at CSC Repertory Co. and a Drama-Logue Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre as Grumio in "The Taming of The Shrew", at the California Shakespeare Theatre. Laskawy flexed his talents in many of New York's small theatres, as a guest artist in regional theatres, and in supporting and leading roles on Broadway and off- Broadway. He continued into television and feature film work as a multi-faceted comedic and dramatic actor in Los Angeles. An avid observer of life, he had wide ranging interests in photography, art, architecture, theatre and film. And there wasn't a sport he didn't like.Harris is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Reed Laskawy and many dear cousins.
