too comical she looked like she was going to murder them
until she called Pat from the HOSPITAL to bail her out with them? She is ridiculous
he should have turned around and walked out as soon as he saw what her "emergency" was

Does anyone recall the story that Ilene didn't want to do a scene where it was written that Delia tore a head off a doll during a tantrum? Ilene thought that went too far -- so they changed the scene. I found angry Delia stabbing the knife into the pumpkin -- saying that was gonna be Faith -- far more disturbing than I think the ripping off a doll's head would have been

Dee is setting up situations that are excuses for calling Pat over, and this pumpkin carving episode was no different. But as I was watching I was wondering if she bought all those pumpkins because it would be a situation that needed Pat (in Dee's mind, anyway) or if she, albeit planning to call Pat, had a manic episode where she truly imagined being able to accomplish the project. I think it was the latter and that it reflects her mood disorder that either aggrandizes or catastrophizes every situation.
The scene might have been funny, Dee surrounded by a patch of pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, her attempts at tricking Pat notwithstanding, but for the reveal of her inner mind imagining destroying rich, snooty Faith who just loves the Ryan boys followed by verbalizing her intentions of never losing LJ, because as long as she has that baby she is still Mrs. Ryan, one Mrs. Ryan or the other.
Is this all still excusable because her husband did her wrong? I think it's a manifestation of her sick mind, the same sick mind she has always had and the one Frank recoiled from.

LOL - too true!
I have seen these epi's many more times than I care to count. But I too always wonder if Dee planned all this or if it came to her out of the blue...
