It was good and pretty cute. To have been perfect -- though --she should have thrown in the word "see" a few more times -- I counted only one ("see")

I thought the impression was spot on. And very funny! Marilyn

Catherine Hicks is just DELIGHTFUL! She's the ONLY Faith, as far as I'm concerned.

I thought it was a great impersonation, and seeing someone else articulating IK's character made me realize that Delia's behavior is not just manipulative and childish -- it's bizzare. I laughed when I realized that Faith's "Dee" was overwhelmed because she couldn't figure out that she was hungry without "Patty's" diagnosis. I was surprised that Pat managed to smile after the impersonation -- I thought he'd get ticked off and defend Dee.

I think it only goes to show what a great actress IK is. She has to keep up this persona all the time.

While Catherine usually plays smart, well educated women -- in this scene you could see why she was able to pull off the helpless dumb blonde (Marilyn Monroe) as well.

Marilyn Monroe was SEEN as a "helpless dumb blonde" in many situations. Yet, MM was neither <dumb> nor <helpless> in real life (yes, I get the Delia comparison). CH did an outstanding job (IMHO) of portraying this extremely complex artist. RIP, Ms Monroe Marianne

It was interesting how Pat treated Dee after seeing Faith imitate her. That was a real break through! He didn't fuss at Faith for doing it. It was funny and so accurate. He saw the ridiculousness of Dee's ploys. So when he saw Dee later, he was actually a bit resistent to her charms and refused to fall for it.

Wow. I didn't pick up on that. I wonder if Faith had kept up on the impressions would Pat have had the wherewithal to fend off Miss Dee? This could be quite a community service. She might have been able to help Roger as well. I can see her with her own show on Channel R, empowering all of Riverside with the ability to notice and ward off Dee's manipulations. Of course, if Dee were to watch the show, she would either be cured (which would be a definite blow to RH) or implode.

While CH is undeniably a delightful person and a great actress (and certainly, of all the actresses who played Faith, the one I'd most like to have as a girlfriend [heh heh]), I don't think she's right for the part of Faith - precisely because she is upbeat and perky. The Faith character is supposed to be messed up and a damsel-in-distress. And also a beauty queen type (and that's not a compliment). So, for me, KMG's Faith is the true Faith. (Although, as I've argued in the past, the original description for the character was designed specifically for FC - so FC was, by definition, the perfect match for the original conception of the character)

I'm very surprised by your comment Joe, that Faith was supposed to be a "messed up, damsel in distress, beauty queen." As you said, Faith 1 was not supposed to be exactly that, and obviously CH's faith was not intended to be any of those things. I believe the decision to turn Faith into a glamorous damsel in distress was the network's, and it occurred after CH left.

I always felt that the dynamics of the particular actresses took over their portrayals. FC was young and not particularly mature or pretty, (sorry!). CH had a very mature demeanor, as well as being pretty. KM was very pretty but not adept at playing a depth of maturity, in my estimation. Or were they all just very good actors and totally unlike who they played? IDK! BTW~ CH was definitely my favorite.

The producers could hardly have picked 3 more different Faiths!
#1 was awkward and not very pretty, although she was touted as being so.
#2 was the most well-balanced of the trio, pretty and likeable.
#3 was the most classically beautiful, but back to having psychological flaws, especially her supposedly deep-seated jealousy of Jill, which we had hitherto not seen.

KM's Faith was the spiritual heiress of the original Faith, delicate, fragile, and neurotic. She also took Faith from a girlish ingenue to a glamourous, stunning beyotch, for which I am extremely grateful, as the 1981 Faith was the most fun of all.

Nancy Barrett and Catherine Hicks were hired at the time they wanted to change the direction for the character, and hired for the Faith/Pat Delia triangle, and to make Faith calmer and more adult. This was posted at the time of the first rewind. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Faith Question? ? April 29, 2003 DansEire Faith Catlin was replaced. I'm not sure if it was a mutual departure (she wanted to leave) or her contract simply was simply not renewed. I do know that TPTB were not pleased with her or the direction of the character. I was told that Labine and Mayer envisioned Nancy Barrett (Carolyn, Dark Shadows) as Faith, but ABC wanted a younger actress. ABC finally relented and cast Barrett in the summer of 1976, but she left after two months. At that point, Catherine Hicks was cast. Hicks played the role like Barrett, more adult and stronger. Catlin's Faith seemed like a traditional soap heroine, sweet and constantly in danger. After Hicks left, Karen Morris-Gowdy takes over and reverts Faith back to the “victim” phase. I think this is an early example of L&M battling ABC. Obviously, L&M wanted the character to exhibit strength and independence, while ABC preferred a beleaguered heroine for whom everyone could weep and worry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with Joe – well done!
I just wish the writers would have embraced KMG’s Faith neurosis and not switch between showing her psychological flaws and then telling us (or having Faith constantly tell people) how “good and kind” she was. “Bug-eyed -crazy Faith” was definitely more interesting the wishy-washy portrayal KMG usually gave. (JMO) Spoiler:
What bothered me most about the character of Faith at that time of her fury with Jill was that no character would acknowledge Faith’s fault in the matter. It was always “poor Faith”. No one pointed out how wrong it was for Faith to take up with her sister’s long time love (and her former fiancé’s brother) so quickly after F&J broke up. Even before that, she treated Pat poorly by getting involved with him when she thought Tom was crazy and then dumping him as soon as she found out Tom could be cured.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I never saw the character of Faith as a heroine (with the glaring exception of CH’s Faith) – but more as a neurotic and basically weak woman. But none of the show’s characters seemed to acknowledged this about Faith.
